Track And Field Senior Salute: Rafael Vallery

The University of Memphis track and field/cross country program's celebration of its 2018 senior class continues with the next of the 23 Tigers seniors.

Monday's next senior salute is Rafael Vallery.

One of the anchors of the throws group the last four years
Three-time NCAA East Preliminaries qualifier in the shot put and discus
Four-time American Athletic Conference medalist in the throws
Competed in and scored points in all eight American Athletic Conference Championships meets (indoor/outdoor combined)
Two-time medalist at the 2018 conference outdoor meet, winning silver in the discus and bronze in the shot put
Set outdoor personal-bests in both the discus and shot put at his final home meet, the Memphis Invitational, in late April
Threw a 191-3 (58.30m) in the discus and a 60-7.25 (18.47m) in the shot put
Placed second (won silver) in the shot put at the league indoor championships in late February
Won his first conference medal (bronze) in the discus at the 2017 league outdoor championships
Posted top-three performances in both the discus and shot put in five meets during the 2018 outdoor season
Had 27 career top-three finishes in all of his throws events combined (indoor/outdoor)
Three-time American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team member
Two-time U.S. Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic honoree
Graduated from the University of Memphis May 5 with a bachelor's degree in finance and a minor in accounting
