Track And Field Senior Salute: Lauren Wheeler

The University of Memphis track and field/cross country program's celebration of its 2018 senior class continues with the next of the 23 Tigers seniors.

Thursday's next senior salute is Lauren Wheeler.

Member of the cross country team from 2014-17, including the 2016 season that was the best in program history
That 2016 cross country squad posted its highest finish at a postseason conference race, placing third
The 2016 Tigers also were ranked in the regional poll for the first time in school history and remained in the poll for a school-record five weeks
Top 6k time was 23:19.0 at the 2016 American Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships
Best 6k finish was 39^that the 2015 Rhodes College Invitational
Top cross country performance was eighth at the 5k Austin Peay Festival in 2016
Had a personal-best setting 2017 outdoor season in which she cut nearly a minute off her time in the 5000 meters
Entered the 2017 season with a personal-best 19:09.81 in the 5000 meters and improved to 18:24.68 (2017 Arkansas State Red Wolves Open)
Placed second in the 5000 meters at the Red Wolves Open for her career-best distance performance
Competed in four American Athletic Conference Championships meets (indoor/outdoor combined)
Three-time American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team honoree
Graduated from the University of Memphis May 5 with a bachelor's degree in exercise, sport and movement sciences
