Tigers Rally for 9-7 Road Win Over Arkansas State
Mar 15, 2022 | Baseball
Memphis: 9, Arkansas State: 7
WP: Daniel Casto (1-0)
LP: Brandon Hudson (0-1)
SV: Dalton Kendrick (2)
How it happened:
- Home runs came early and often, as each side homered twice in the first two innings
- DH Jacob Compton's three-run home run in the first inning gave Memphis an early 3-0 lead, while C Tanner Booth's solo home run in the second gave Memphis a 4-2 advantage
- Arkansas State got home runs from 1B Jared Toler and 2B Daedrick Cail, as the game was tied 4-4 after two innings
- The Red Wolves plated a pair in the third and another run in the fourth and led 7-5 after four innings, but the Memphis bullpen didn't allow a run after that
- LF Braden Webb drew a bases loaded walk for Memphis to plate a run in the fifth, while Compton and 3B Logan Kohler each had an RBI in a three-run sixth, which put Memphis in front 9-7
- Casto entered with the bases loaded and one out in the fourth but got out of the jam with a strikeout and ground out; he retired all eight batters he faced over 2.2 perfect innings
- With a two run lead, Kendrick entered with the bases loaded and two outs in the eighth and got out of the jam with a strikeout of RF Sam Fagan
- Kendrick worked around a one out walk in the ninth to earn the save in the 9-7 win
Notables:
- 2B Austin Baskin and SS Ben Brooks each extended their on-base streak to 14 games
- Compton's first inning home run lengthened his hit streak to seven games and was part of his sixth multi-hit game this season
- The second inning home run by Booth was his first in a Memphis uniform
Up Next:
- The Tigers will return home and play at FedExPark Avron Fogelman Field for the first time since March 6, as they host Southern Illinois-Edwardsville for a three-game series that begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday
