GREENSBORO, N.C. – The University of Memphis baseball program has been recognized for its outstanding work in the classroom, earning the 2025-26 ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award, the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) announced last week.
"I'm proud of this group as they set another record for Memphis baseball. Our guys and Kristin Williams are intentional about maximizing what we can accomplish in the classroom. This is a direct reflection of how much effort, energy and time has gone into being the best version of ourselves. I'm extremely appreciative to the guys and Kristen for this accomplishment." said head coach Matt Riser.
The Tigers received the honor after posting a 3.556 cumulative team GPA during the 2025-26 academic year, comfortably surpassing the 3.0 GPA requirement for the award. Memphis also recorded a 3.619 team GPA during the Fall 2025 semester, setting a new program record.
Presented annually by Sports Attack, the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award recognizes high school and collegiate baseball programs whose student-athletes excel in the classroom. To qualify, programs must have a current ABCA member serving as head coach and achieve a cumulative team GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale during the academic year.
The honor adds to another successful year for Memphis Baseball both on and off the field, as the Tigers continued to establish a culture of excellence in the classroom while competing at a high level throughout the 2026 season.
