Memphis Set for Road Battle with Arkansas State, Home Series vs. SIUE

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – After a three-game road sweep in their first trip away from Memphis this season, the Memphis Tigers (9-4) are set for four games this week, with a Tuesday road trip to Arkansas State (4-9) and a home series vs. Southern Illinois-Edwardsville (8-5) this weekend. Memphis holds a 20-18 edge over Arkansas State in the series dating back to 2000. The Tigers have won five straight meetings with the Red Wolves, including three straight on the road. Arkansas State hasn't beaten Memphis on its home surface since 2016. The Tigers are 10-9 both home and on the road against the Red Wolves. The Red Wolves will make the return trip to Memphis May 10.

Arkansas State started the season with four consecutive losses and have dropped five straight after a four-game win streak. The Red Wolves were swept on the road against Samford to begin the season and dropped a road matchup to then #3 Ole Miss. Arkansas State has series wins over Mississippi Valley State and Illinois State but was swept in an abridged two-game series last weekend at Missouri State. The Red Wolves have been outscored by 37 and have given up nearly 8.5 runs per game with a team ERA at 7.75. Five everyday starters have hit north of .325 through the team's first 13 games of the season, paced by Jacob Hager's .394 BA. Ben Klutts is second on the team with a .370 BA and leads the club with three home runs and is tied for the team lead with Jaylon Deshazier with 12 RBIs. Arkansas State's pitching staff features eight pitchers who have made at last four appearances and have an ERA over 8.00.

Memphis is 6-3 in nine meetings vs. SIUE since 2009, with all nine meetings taking place at home for the Tigers. Memphis has won three straight in the series, a three-game sweep in February 2016 by a combined score of 19-7. The teams also met in a three-game series in Memphis in 2012 and 2009. SIUE has home matchups Monday and Wednesday vs. Oakland and Western Illinois respectively before the trip to take on the Tigers.

The Cougars got off to a slow start with series losses at Southeastern Louisiana and Mercer but are 6-1 since, with a sweep of Western Michigan and series win vs. Oakland. SIUE is led offensively by Josh Ohl and Brett Johnson, who have hit .440 and .370 respectively. Johnson leads the team with eight home runs and 16 RBIs, while both have an OPS over 1.400.
