Women’s Golf Third Through Opening Day of Memphis Intercollegiate

Fletcher one of four players to shoot under par on day one.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Senior Michaela Fletcher was one of four golfers to complete day one of the Memphis Intercollegiate under par at Ridgeway Country Club, Monday. Fletcher fired a 139 (-3) over two rounds and is second in the individual standings at the end of the opening day of play. Penn State's Megan McLean carded a day one 137 (-5) to hold the lead Monday night.
Fellow seniors Sydney Colwill and Madison Thomas are also on the top quarter of the leaderboard at the end of day one. Colwill is tied for sixth at 143 (+1) after carding a 72 and 71 on Monday. Thomas is tied for 16that 147 (+5) after going 72-75 on an unseasonably cool April day.
Freshman Ana Dawson is also in the top 20, tied for 20th, after a day one 149 (75-74). Victoria Gallagos was Memphis' other team entrant and is 61stat the end of day one at 157.
Julia Matzat and Abigail Herrmann competed as individuals at the home event. Matzat is tied for 46that a pair of 77's on Monday (154, +12) and Herrmann is tied for 57that 156 (79-77) heading in to Tuesday's final round.
Penn State leads the team event after scorching the field in the second round with a 274. With the Nittany Lions' 292 opening round, they now hold a five stroke lead over second place Middle Tennessee (571) and a 12-stroke lead on host Memphis (578 – 290-288).
The event will wrap on Tuesday with 18 holes of competition. The field will tee off at 8:30 am from a shotgun start with Memphis' team entrants going off holes one through four and the individuals off 17 and 18. Live scoring will be available at www.golfstat.com.
