Tigers Fall to League-Leading Roadrunners in Game Two in San Antonio
Apr 26, 2025 | Baseball
The Tigers moved to 16-26 (4-13 AAC) on the season while the league-leading Roadrunners improved to 32-10 (14-3 AAC) on the year.
"We have to do a better job of handling situations," head coach Matt Riser said. "Every time we scratched a little bit closer, we gave them a little bit more. Now that the offense is going a little bit, we have to continue to pitch and play defense."
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Roadrunners scratched three runs across in the bottom of the first inning to jump out to an early lead.
• The Tigers got on the board in the top of the fourth on a two-out RBI double by Seth Cox and added two more runs to tie the game in the top of the fifth on a two-run home run by second baseman Daniel Perez.
• Following the first inning, Memphis left David Case settled in on the mound and threw up zeroes on the scoreboard until the fifth inning. A two-out Tiger error allowed four unearned runs to score as UTSA jumped back out to a 7-3 lead.
• The Roadrunners tacked on three more runs in the sixth to grow their lead to 10-3.
• Memphis answered with two runs in the top of the seventh – the first coming via solo shot from freshman Jack Pitts. A sac-fly later in the inning off the bat of Justin Fogel plated freshman Michael Politte, trimming the UTSA lead back to five.
• UTSA got three runs back in the bottom half of the seventh on a three-run home run by AAC Preseason Player of the Year Mason Lytle.
• Seth Cox slugged a solo home run with one out in the top of the eighth inning and Politte drove in a run with an RBI ground out later in the frame to make the score 13-7, Roadrunners.
• UTSA added four runs to its lead in the bottom of the eighth to end the game an inning early by a score of 17-7.
