Tigers Drop Finale in Extras to League-Leading Roadrunners
Apr 27, 2025 | Baseball
SAN ANTONIO – The University of Memphis baseball team fell 6-5 in 11 innings to league-leader UTSA in the series finale of a three-game American Athletic Conference series on Sunday afternoon at Roadrunner Field in San Antonio, Texas.
The Tigers moved to 16-27 (4-14 AAC) on the season while the league-leading Roadrunners improved to 33-10 (15-3 AAC) on the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Memphis jumped out to an early lead with a two-run first inning, getting on the board on a perfectly executed double steal where Justin Fogel took second base and Cade Greer took home for the game's first run. An RBI single by Seth Cox gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead.
• UTSA got a run back in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by last week's AAC Player of the Week Norris McClure.
• A solo home run by Roadrunner Andrew Stucky in the bottom of the third tied the game up at two runs apiece.
• Cade Greer gave Memphis the lead right back in the top of the fourth with a two-out RBI single after Creek Robertson doubled the at-bat prior.
• The Roadrunners got the run back on another solo home run – this time from UTSA slugger James Taussig – to tie the game back at 3-3.
• The Tigers regained the lead in the top of the sixth on a sac-fly by Shane Cox that scored Robertson once again.
• Justin Fogel came through with a big insurance run for Memphis in the top of the eighth inning, blasting a no-doubt, two-out solo shot to give the Tigers a 5-3 lead.
• The lead would not last long as an RBI single and an RBI triple by the Roadrunners in the bottom half of the eighth tied the game back up at 5-5.
• RHP Brayden Sanders got the final out of the eighth inning and came back out for the ninth. He worked around a single and a walk with a little help from Greer, who made an outstanding diving catch for the final out of the inning to send the game to extra innings.
• The Tiger offense went down in order in the top of the 10th before Sanders went back out for another inning and returned the favor to send the game to the 11th.
• In the bottom of the 11th, the Roadrunners loaded the bases with two outs, bringing Ty Hodge to the plate. He worked the count full before delivering a game-winning single to walk the Roadrunners off.
