Tigers Fall to Mississippi State at Dudy Noble Field
Apr 29, 2025 | Baseball
The Tigers moved to 16-28 (4-14 AAC) on the season while the Bulldogs improved to 26-19 (7-14 SEC) on the year.
"We responded offensively and did some good things after they had the big inning there in the fourth," head coach Matt Riser said. "It's back to work this week. The main focus these last three weeks is our conference slate. I thought we left it on a good note there in San Antonio on Sunday the way we competed and the way we went about it. With the right guys on the mound I think we will put ourselves in a good position to have success."
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Mississippi State jumped out to a 3-0 lead after scoring three two-out runs in the bottom of the first.
• The Bulldogs added another two-out run in the second on an RBI single by Sawyer Reeves.
• In the third, Mississippi State added three more runs on a three-run home run by Reed Stallman to make it a 7-0 lead.
• A 10-run inning for the Bulldogs in the fourth extended their lead to 17-0.
• Memphis got on the board in the top of the fifth with a four-run frame, all coming with two outs. Cade Greer reached on an error by the shortstop that allowed freshman Carter McKay to score. Justin Fogel followed that up with a two-run single back up the middle, and Shane Cox kept it going with his second hit of the game – an RBI single to left field that brought Greer home to make the score 17-4, Bulldogs.
• Mississippi State added a two-out run in the bottom of the sixth.
• The Tigers loaded the bases in the top of the seventh and Creek Robertson scored on a wild pitch. That would be the final run of the game as the Tigers fell 18-5 in seven innings.
NOTABLES
• Shane Cox had a 2-for-3 night and drove in his team-leading 26th run of the season.
