Tigers Open Eight-Game Homestand vs. UAB this Weekend

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis baseball team opens an eight-game home stand with a three-game American Athletic Conference series vs. UAB at FedExPark Avron Fogelman Field this weekend, Friday through Sunday.
Jeff Brightwell will be on the call via audio stream at GoTigersGo.com and The Varsity Network powered by Learfield on Friday night (6:05 p.m.) and for Sunday's finale (1:05 p.m.). Saturday's game (4:05 p.m.) will be streamed live on ESPN+, with Brightwell and Greg Gaston Sr. on the call.
Due to softball and track & field also hosting events on Park Avenue Campus Friday and Saturday, fans are encouraged to arrive early.
FedExPark will play host to the 91st, 92nd and 93rd all-time meetings between the two programs with the Tigers leading the series, 46-44. The Blazers took the series, two games to one in Birmingham last season, but the Tigers won Sunday's finale, 3-2.
Memphis (16-28, 4-14 AAC) dropped three games at AAC-leader UTSA (34-10, No. 26 RPI) over the weekend, falling 6-5 in 11 innings in Sunday's finale before going on the road to Starkville, Mississippi, on Tuesday night and falling to Mississippi State, 18-5.
UAB (23-22, 7-11 AAC) will roll in to Memphis after earning a series win over Rice last weekend, two games to one in Birmingham. The Blazers picked up an eight-inning, shutout win (10-0) over Alabama State at home on Tuesday night behind a five-run bottom of the eighth.
The Tigers will roll out RHP Seth Garner (2-6, 4.53 ERA) for his 12th start of the season on Friday night as he will face off with reigning College Baseball Hall of Fame National Pitcher of the Week Colin Daniel (5-4, 3.80 ERA), who threw complete-game shutout, scattering three hits over nine innings while striking out 13 batters in a 3-0 win over Rice last Friday. Daniel was also named The American's Pitcher of the Week for the third time this season.
Memphis LHP David Case (1-6, 5.79 ERA) will make his 12th start of the campaign on Saturday while the Blazers are TBA. Both teams' starters for Sunday's finale are TBA.
Tiger catcher Jonah Sutton made his return to the Tiger lineup last weekend after a 10-game absence. He ranks No. 8 nationally in runners thrown out from behind the plate (16) and is now 16-of-35 (46%) from behind the dish. As a team, Memphis has thrown out 39 percent of runners stealing on the season (21-of-54) as Justin Fogel is 4-for-16 on the year and freshman Jack Pitts is 1-for-3.
After ranking 12th nationally with 54 double plays turned a season ago, the Tigers have turned 43 through 44 games to lead The American and rank fifth nationally in that category. Memphis trails national leaders New Mexico State and UCLA (48) by five. UAB has had success with the two-ball this year as well, turning 42 double plays to rank one spot behind the Tigers in the national rankings.
UAB is led offensively by Todd Clay (.366 AVG. / 5 HR / 44 RBI) and Logan Braunschweig (.325 AVG. / 7 HR / 27 RBI / 24 SB). The Blazers' 68 stolen bases lead the conference.
