Late Offense Not Enough in 7-6 Loss to Brown
Feb 27, 2022 | Baseball
Memphis: 6, Brown: 7
How it happened:
- 2B Charles Crawford led off the game for Brown with a triple off of RHP Carson Stinnett (ND) and scored two batters later on a sacrifice fly
- Stinnett departed after just 1.2 innings with an apparent injury, as the Tigers used nine total pitchers in the loss
- Memphis got three straight singles off of RHP Santhosh Gottam (W, 1-0) in the second frame and tied the game on a run-producing double play groundout from 2B Austin Baskin
- Neither side scored again until the fifth, when C Jacob Burley put Brown in front for good with a sacrifice fly
- The Bears and Tigers each scored in the sixth, as Brown led 3-2 after six frames
- Burley and 1B Ryan Marra had back-to-back home runs for Brown in the seventh, and the Bears added two more in the frame to lead 7-2
- The Tigers pushed a run across in the sixth on a sacrifice fly but left runners at second and third base
- Memphis got consecutive singles from 3B Logan Kohler and Baskin to begin the seventh but got just one run and left the bases loaded
- As the third Brown pitcher of the day, Sam Duncan retired just one of the three batters that he faced, as Memphis plated two runs in the eighth before LF Ian Bibiloni grounded into an inning-ending double play, which kept Memphis behind 7-5
- In the final frame, CF BJ Banyon led off with a double and scored on a sacrifice fly from DH Jacob Compton, but with the tying run at second base, Charlie Beilenson (SV, 1) struck out 1B Taylor Howell to secure Brown's 7-6 win
Notables:
