Tigers Hold on in 5-3 Win Over Alabama A&M

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Tigers (5-2) got all they could handle Tuesday from the Alabama A&M Bulldogs (0-6) but persevered through threats in each of the final three innings in a 5-3 win. The Bulldogs stranded the potential tying runs on base in the seventh, at the plate in the eighth, and on base in the ninth.

How it happened:
- Two first inning errors by Alabama A&M led to two Memphis runs, as LF Ian Bibiloni scored on a groundout by SS Ben Brooks and DH Jacob Compton scored a fly out turned error off the bat of C Taylor Howell
- In his first Memphis start, RHP Landon Gartman (W, 1-0) gave up a single in each of his first three innings but kept the Bulldogs off the board
- After the Tigers got a run in the third on another Alabama A&M error, the Bulldogs pulled within one on a fourth inning two-run home run from C Dillon Roop, as Memphis led 3-2 after 3.5 frames
- The Tigers added a run in the fourth on an RBI double by RF Blake Daniels and another in the fifth as Howell scored on a wild pitch, as Memphis led 5-2 after five innings
- Alabama A&M got back within two runs in the seventh, as a leadoff walk issued by LHP Logan Rushing came around to score after a pair of Memphis errors
- As Memphis' third pitcher of the game, RHP Chase Kessinger stranded both inherited runners in the seventh and worked around a walk as he struck out the side in the eighth
- RHP Blake Wimberley (SV, 1) struck out the side around a pair of singles in the ninth to secure Memphis' 5-3 win
Notables:
- C Taylor Howell's fifth inning single extended his hit streak to a team-best six games
- With two hits, RF Blake Daniels has now recorded at least one hit in six of his first seven games with Memphis
- The Memphis pitching staff struck out 15 and has struck out at least 9 batters in each of the past four games, with at least 13 three times over that stretch

- The Nicholls Colonels come to Memphis for a three-game series this weekend, with first pitch Friday set for 4 p.m.
