Tuesday will be the first ever meeting between Memphis and Alabama A&M and serve as Memphis' first midweek game of the season following last Tuesday's cancelation vs. Central Arkansas. The Bulldogs have yet to win a game this season and have been outscored 48-22 in their five games. Alabama A&M had given up at least eight runs in each of its first four matchups this season before they held Valparaiso to three runs in a 3-2 loss in game two of a doubleheader last Friday.
Jalen Ford is the lone Bulldogs starter hitting over .300 so far this season, as the freshman infielder is 6-15 (.400) with two RBIs. Sophomore Dillon Roop hit his first career home run on Friday, one of just two home runs through five games for Alabama A&M. The three pitchers who have started a game so far for the Bulldogs this season have combined for a 12.46 ERA (24 ER, 17.1 IP), while the bullpen has been better but still sports an ERA north of 6.00.

The Tigers and Colonels have met just eight times dating back to 1975 and six of those eight matchups have occurred since 1991. The Tigers dropped a home series to the Colonels in 2005 but picked up a road series win the following year. The 2005 series loss included both a 20-11 Memphis win and a 25-4 Nicholls win. The Colonels opened the season at home against Missouri and got run-ruled twice, as they lost three of their four games to the Tigers. After a loss at home to Tulane, Nicholls swept a three-game series vs. Mississippi Valley State by a combined score of 37-11. The Colonels are set for a Tuesday matchup at home vs. Louisiana Tech and a Wednesday matchup on the road against Jackson State before them come to Memphis.
The Nicholls offense has five starters hitting over .300 entering this week, which includes Wes Toups, who is 9-20 (.450) with a home run, four extra base hits, and nine RBIs. Three different players already have two home runs for the Colonels including Edgar Alvarez, who leads the team with 10 RBIs. On the mound, likely Sunday starter Tyler Theriot (1-1, 1.54) struggled against Missouri (7 R, 2 ER), but shut out Mississippi Valley State over six-hitless innings. The Colonels' other two likely weekend starters, Devin Desandro (1-0, 4.50) and Nico Saltaformaggio (1-1, 5.79) each struggled against Missouri before bounce-back efforts vs. Mississippi Valley State.
