Tigers Fall to Boston College, (RV) Austin Peay

FORT MEYERS, Fla. – The Tiger softball team faced losses to Boston College and (RV) Austin Peay as they took part in the second day of the FGCU Invitational. Memphis fell 7-2 to the Eagles before dropping a heartbreaker to (RV) Austin Peay with a final score of 9-6.
Following today's games, Memphis moves to 3-6 overall.

GAME ONE: MEMPHIS: 2, BOSTON COLLEGE: 7
How it happened:
- Boston College's offense got off to a hot start, scoring six runs through the first three innings.
- Meagan Chism got the Tigers on the board in the top of the 4th inning when she hit a sacrifice fly that brought Alyssa Deanacross home plate.
- Camryn Wineinger added to Memphis' scoring in the top of the 5th when she singled to third base to score LaNya Bates and make it a 6-2 game.
- After the Eagles added another run in the bottom of the 6th inning, the Tigers attempted to add more runs in the 6th and 7thinnings but were unable to convert.
- Camryn Wineinger and Alyssa Dean both recorded two hits during the game.
- Hallie Siems got the start today with one strikeout while Mikayla Hoschak finished the 4.2 innings with four strikeouts.
How it happened:
- Austin Peay got the ball rolling early, taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning after a single to right field from Mea Clark scored Lexi Osowski and Megan Hodum.
- Kendall Lee tied the game up in the bottom half of the 1st inning after a two-run homerun brought her and LaNya Bates around the bases.
- The Colonels would add runs in the 2nd, 4th and 5th innings to extend their lead out to 7-2.
- Camryn Wineinger would cut the Tiger's deficit in the bottom of the 5th inning when she singled to center field and sent Alexis Dale across home plate and make it a 7-3 game.
- After Austin Peay added two more runs in the top of the 7th, Memphis rallied in the bottom half of the inning.
- Dale would get things rolling after scoring on a passed ball before Lee reached on an error and allowed Bates to score and make it a 9-5 ball game.
- Gracie Morton would get in on the fun with an RBI single up the middle that sent Brianna Lucero across the plate.
- With the bases loaded, Memphis tried to rally for more runs, but the Austin Peay defense would hold steady and claim the 9-6 win.
- Kendall Lee and Gracie Morton both recorded a multi-hit game while seven different Tiger players had hits today.
- Drue Thomas got her first start of the year today while Zoey LeCompte, Kailey Hilderbrand and Mikayla Hoschak all made appearances in the circle.
- The Tigers will take part in the third and final day of the FGCU Invitational when they take on host school, Florida Gulf Coast. First pitch is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. CT.
