Miscues lead to Memphis setback at UConn

STORRS, Conn. – Miscues plagued the Tigers in their series opener on Friday afternoon as Memphis dropped a 3-1 contest at UConn at J.O. Christian Field.
Memphis (16-15, 3-4) grabbed an early lead, but UConn (22-12, 6-4) plated three unanswered runs and took advantage of three Memphis errors.
Hunter Smith took the loss on the mound despite surrendering no earned runs. The senior threw seven innings and struck out six.
At the dish, Kyle Ouellette posted a mutli-hit effort after a 3-for-4 performance.
The Tigers struck first in the opening frame when Hunter Goodman drove in Colton Neel on an RBI single.
Memphis found a pair of opportunities after the lead off hitter reached base in the second and fifth innings but could not add to its lead.
UConn tied the game on a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning and then plated two runs in the seventh after the first two hitters reached base on an error.
The Tigers seek to even the series on Saturday with first pitch slated for 12 p.m. (CT).
