Junior college transfer becomes first medalist for program since spring of 2016
KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – University of Memphis junior Isaiah Jackson tied the College of Charleston's Christian Baliker for medalist honors with a three-day total of 7-under 209 to help the Tigers to a second-place finish in the East Bay Deli Classic Tuesday.
Jackson led after each of the event's three rounds, beginning with a 6-under 66 and following with a 73 and a 70 to give the UofM its first medalist of the fall season and the first for the program since the spring of 2016. Overall, the Tigers finished at even-par 864 after closing with a 5-under 283 Tuesday. They finished three strokes behind champion Charleston, ranked 44th nationally.
Jackson, a junior college transfer, was one of four Tigers to shoot par or better Tuesday. Bradley Bawden, a senior from Hockley, England, also fired a 2-under 70 to finish at 215 and in sole possession of sixth place.
Chase Harris shot his second-straight 71 to close at 3-over 219. Rodi Vlasveld carded an even-par 72, his best round of the event. Nick Giles had a 73 and finished at 6-over 222.
Memphis recorded its fourth Top 10 finish of the fall and its second runner-up finish. The Tigers also placed second in their season-opening event, the Memphis Intercollegiate at Colonial Country Club.
The Tigers resume play in February by returning to South Carolina. They'll compete Feb. 25 and 26 at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate at Hilton Head Island, S.C.
