Tigers in Fifth, O’Connor and Wang in Top Five Following Day One of Quail Valley Collegiate

VERO BEACH, Fla. - The University of Memphis men's golf team had a notable first day at the Quail Valley Collegiate with the team in fifth place at 21 under par while Yixiang Wang and Cian O'Connor are both in the top five for individuals.
After shooting 14 under par in round one, the Tigers followed up with a seven under par performance to put them just four strokes behind current leader, Minnesota. The round one score is the best team score round since the GMAC Invitational last season when Memphis put up a 274 round two score.
Wang had a monster day, shooting nine under in round one – that included an eagle on hole seven and seven birdies. The 63 round one score is his best collegiate round. Wang followed up with two more eagles on holes three and 14 in round two.
O'Connor also shot big today, going three under in round one and shooting a 66 in round two – his career low for a round.
Christian Morneau finished day one shooting even while Tobey Kim and Diego Lourenco both finished one over par for the day.
Memphis will tee off for the third and final round beginning at 7:30 a.m. CT. Live results can be found HERE.
