Tigers Advance to NCAA Championships For First Time Since 2012 After Third Place Finish in Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The University of Memphis men's golf team punched its ticket to the NCAA Men's Golf Championships after finishing third overall Wednesday at the Columbus Regional at the OSU Golf Club-Scarlet Course.
The historic finish sends the Tigers to the NCAA Championships for the first time since 2012, marking the first time head coach Blake Smart has guided the program to the national finals during his tenure.

Following a two-and-a-half-hour rain delay before the final round, Memphis carded a 16-over-par 300 to close out the competition in lone possession of third place. The Tigers shot 25 over par 877 during the three day tournament. No. 2 Florida won the regional crown by shooting an even-par 852, while No. 14 Stanford followed in second place at 24-over-par 876. Arizona State and Florida State claimed the final two qualifying spots, finishing fourth and fifth respectively.
Sophomore Christian Morneau led the charge for Memphis, finishing tied for second place overall at 1-over-par 214 after carding a 3-over-par 74 in the final round. Cian O'Connor secured a piece of 11th place by shooting a 3-over-par 74 on Wednesday for a three day total of 6-over-par 219.
Yixiang Wang and Diego Lourenco tied for 27th place after both carded a 6-over-par 77 in their final rounds to finish the week at 10-over-par 223. Tobey Kim wrapped up the Tiger lineup by shooting his best round of the week with a 4 over par 75, placing tied for 62nd at 18 over par 231.
Memphis and the top five teams from the regional advance to the NCAA Championships at Omni La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, California. The national tournament is scheduled to begin Friday, May 29 and conclude Wednesday, June 3.
