Jackson leads Tigers at 1-under 139; Bawden two strokes back
AIKEN, S.C. – Isaiah Jackson fired a 2-under 68 in the second round to lead the University of Memphis on the opening day of play Monday in the 22nd Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate.
As a team, Memphis shot 283-282 for 5-over 565 and is in fifth place entering Tuesday's final round. South Carolina is in the lead at 23-under 537, 17 strokes better than second-place Virginia, the event's defending champion. Nationally ranked Clemson, the nation's No. 13 team, is next at 1-over 561 followed by UAB, which is at 4-over 564 in the 18-team field.
At 1-under 139 after 36 holes at the Palmetto Golf Club, Jackson, a junior from Golden, Miss., is the only Tiger shooting under par. His second round included five birdies and two bogeys.
Following Jackson were Bradley Bawden (70-71 for 141); Nick Giles (69-73 for 142), Chase Harris (73-71 for 144) and Borja Martin (74-72 for 146). Giles and Jackson were the only Tigers to shoot under par, which is 70 for the 6,617-yard layout.
Individually, two South Carolina golfers are in the lead. Will Miles shot 64-65 for 129 and is first place, while teammate Ryan Stachler is in second, five strokes back.
The final round will be held Tuesday.
