Men's golf finishes fifth at Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate

Isaiah Jackson leads Tigers with a 2-over 212; Brad Bawden shoots 216
AIKEN, S.C. – The University of Memphis maintained its position after 36 holes and held on to fifth place in the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate during the final round Tuesday at Palmetto Golf Club.
The Tigers shot 14-over 294, but no one passed them Tuesday in the 18-team event. South Carolina ran away with the title by shooting a tournament-record 27-under par for 813. Defending champion Virginia finished 35 strokes back at 848 along with UAB. Clemson finished fourth at 855.
Memphis, playing in its third spring event, was led by Isaiah Jackson, who shot 3-over 73 Tuesday and finished the 54-hole event at 2-over 212. Four strokes back was teammate Bradley Bawden (75 for 216). Nick Giles shot 75 for 217 and Chase Harris and Borja Martin each had three-round totals of 218. Martin had the best closing round with a 2-over 72.
South Carolina's Will Miles was the medalist with a 13-under 197, a Palmetto Intercollegiate record. He opened with a 6-under 64 and closed with a 68. Teammates Ryan Stachler and Scott Stevens finished in a three-way tie for second with UAB's William Walker. Each shot 4-under 206.
After playing in three straight events, the Tigers will take some time off before resuming play April 5 at the Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate in Nashville hosted by Vanderbilt.
