Brooke Lee goes 3-for-4 on the day.
MEMPHIS – The Memphis softball team (6-14) dropped two games on the final day of the LSU tournament, Saturday. Sophomore second baseman Brooke Lee went 3-for-4 on the day, adding one RBI on the day.
In the morning game against Liberty (8-10), the Tigers gave up 12 hits that Liberty manufactured in to nine runs. Memphis scored in the first and fourth innings. Kyler Trosclair singled to start the game, then stole second. Jessie Lamb then reached on an error and was caught trying to steal second while Trosclair scored from third. Memphis got another baserunner on when Brittany Seale drew a walk and advanced to second on a passed ball. But Lindsey Stickrod lined in to a double play that eliminated the runner and the Tigers' half of the inning.
After Liberty scored two runs in the bottom of the first, pitcher Katie Brignac got a strike out with three runners left on base to get out of the inning down, 2-1. It took until the top of the fourth inning for Memphis to tie the game. Stickrod and Lee put up back-to-back doubles to tie the game and chase Liberty pitcher Kenzie Friesen out of the circle. Lee advanced to third, but was caught at home.
But Chandler Ball got five Tigers out on strikeouts, giving up just one walk and picking up the win to move to 2-2 on the year. Brignac took the loss for Memphis, giving up nine runs, six earned, while striking out three in 5.2 innings pitched.
In the second game of the afternoon, Tennessee Tech jumped out to a quick lead, scoring six runs in the opening inning. Memphis trailed 10-0 heading in to the bottom of the seventh. Lee singled to right field and advanced to second when Tyler Johnson singled. An Addison Maxwell out at first allowed Lee and Johnson to both advance a base and Katie Brignac came in as a pinch hitter and her ground out to short opened the door for Lee to score from third.
