Softball Hosting Non-Conference Doubleheader Tuesday
Mar 07, 2016 | Softball
First pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.
MEMPHIS – The University of Memphis softball team (6-14) will be home for a doubleheader against Youngstown State (7-7), Tuesday, at 2 p.m. Admission to all U of M home softball games is free.
Memphis is looking to continue on strong mid-week games after sweeping two contests at the Park Avenue softball complex last week. Memphis beat Jackson State, 5-2, in its home opener, then downed Wright State, 5-4, in an almost three hour game that ended with junior first baseman Lindsey Stickrod racing a baserunner to the bag at first for the final out with a pair of Raider runners heading for home plate looking for the win.
Sophomore Brooke Lee leads Memphis with a .365 batting average. Her four doubles, including one at the LSU tournament last weekend, is second on the team and her 26 total bases on the year is just five shy of Stickrod's team-leading 31.
In the circle, freshman Bayleigh Wisher leads the team with a 3.63 ERA, just ahead of sophomore Molly Smith's 3.77 ERA. Wisher picked up both wins in last week's mid-week games, including a complete game win over Wright State that saw her throw over 170 pitches in the game.
Live video from both doubleheaders will be available on the Memphis Tiger Network at www.GoTigersGo.com/Watch for a subscription fee. A 24-hour pass is also available for out-of-town fans. Stuart Settles and Jared Emerson will call the doubleheader games.
