MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The University of Memphis softball team returns to action Tuesday when they head to Nashville to face Belmont in a doubleheader beginning at 3:30 p.m. CT at Rose Park.
Memphis (14-25, 3-9 C-USA) holds a 5-1 all-time record against Belmont (11-16, 2-7 OVC) with the last meeting occurring in February 2010 when Memphis swept a doubleheader against the Bruins with 7-0 and 12-4 wins. This will be the second Ohio Valley Conference opponent the Tigers have faced this season after defeating SEMO 2-1 in their final game of the Blues City Classic in late February.
Senior infielder Morgan Mosby leads Memphis this season with a .328 batting average and a .448 slugging percentage. The Hernando, Miss. native has also put together a team-best 38 hits and 15 RBI in 36 games this season.
Junior RHP Ellen Roberts (7-16) leads the Tigers with a 3.38 ERA in the circle with 14 complete games and 125 strikeouts in 145.0 innings pitched. Sophomore RHP Jordan Richwood (6-8) ranks in the top 20 in the nation in strikeouts per seven innings with 113 strikeouts in 86.1 innings pitched.
The Bruins went 1-3 last week after two losses to UT Martin and one to Jacksonville State. Belmont ended its series against JSU with a 7-5 win Saturday for its second OVC win.
For Belmont, sophomore outfielder Kat Hollingsworth leads the Bruins with a .413 batting average and a .793 slugging percentage. Hollingsworth has totaled 30 RBI, 12 doubles and seven home runs in 27 games this season. Sophomore infielder Kirbie Ferrell is second on the team with 29 hits and has a team-high four steals on the year.
In the circle, Carolyn Snodgress (4-4) has seen the most action this season for the Bruins with nine starts and 19 appearances for a 3.55 ERA. Snodgress leads the team in strikeouts with 58 in 67.0 innings of work.
Following its doubleheader against Belmont, Memphis continues its road swing this weekend with a three-game conference series against Southern Miss in Hattiesburg on Saturday and Sunday.
