Tigers Overcome Four-Run Deficit to Take Series Finale Against Tulsa

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis (11-24, 2-10 American) softball team avoided a sweep with a 7-6 win over Tulsa (12-21, 4-8 American) thanks in part to a pair of home runs by Faith Brown and Jasmine Mack, along with five scoreless innings from Mya Clark to shut the door.

Memphis went down 6-2 through two innings and pushed back with one in the third and a four-run fifth inning to take the final game of the weekend and avoid being swept for the third time this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Tulsa scored two runs early, both unearned after a Memphis error.
- Daeya Moses recorded a sacrifice fly and Mackenzy Glenn recorded an RBI single for the Golden Hurricane.
Memphis answered back with a pair of runs in the first.
- Ariel Davis found outfield grass for an RBI single to bring Neely Taylor around to score.
- After a double steal by Davis and Faith Brown, Jasmine Mack hit a bloop single down the left-field line to tie the game at two runs apiece.
The Golden Hurricane jumped back out to a four-run lead in the second inning.
- Another sacrifice fly, this time by Faith Russell, helped Tulsa regain the lead.
- Claira Skaggs logged a two-RBI double and Moses followed up with an RBI single of her own.
The Tigers got one back on an RBI groundout by Jasmine Mack in the third.
Memphis jumped into the lead on a pair of two-run home runs in the fifth inning by Faith Brown and Jasmine Mack.
- Memphis recorded four hits in the inning, with the other two being singles by Deana Cunningham and Ariel Davis.
After entering in the third inning, Mya Clark only allowed four baserunners across the final five innings en route to earning her second victory of the season.

NOTABLES

With two more today, Memphis' home run total reaches 28, moving the 2026 squad into sixth place in single-season home runs.
Faith Brown was 3-for-3 on the day with a two-run home run and a stolen base, also logging two runs scored.
- Brown hit .600 in the series with a team-best six hits, two home runs and four RBI, while carrying a 1.800 OPS.
- She moves into a tie with Ariel Davis for the team lead in RBI with 20.
Jasmine Mack went 2-for-3 with four RBI on the day, including a two-run shot in the fifth.
- Mack now sits third on the team in batting average, home runs and RBI with .333, four and 19, respectively.
Ariel Davis was the third Tiger with a multi-hit day, reaching twice and logging an RBI while also recording a sacrifice hit.
- Ariel Davis logged five hits in the series, finishing with a team-best .625 batting average against the Golden Hurricane.
Deana Cunningham reached and scored twice on a hit and a hit-by-pitch.
- Cunningham is now third on the team with her fifth hit-by-pitch of the season.
Neely Taylor was 1-for-4 with a run scored in the win.
- Taylor logged a hit in each game of the series and has seven hits in her last four games.
Brylee Butts stepped up with a pinch-hit single in the sixth.
- It was the first non-extra-base hit by Butts this season, previously having two doubles and a triple in her freshman campaign.
Jaila Mitchell made her first collegiate start at second base, recording a sacrifice hit.
Mya Clark tossed five scoreless innings in relief, only allowing one hit, two walks and a hit-by-pitch while striking out a pair.
- Today's performance was Clark's longest outing of her career, surpassing a previous high set against Toledo this season in the Kajikawa Classic.

UP NEXT

Memphis will host Ole Miss (23-15, 2-10 SEC) for a nonconference matchup on Tuesday before traveling to Birmingham for a conference series against UAB (15-21, 3-9 American), set for Thursday, Friday and Saturday in The Magic City.
