
Tigers Welcome Tulane to FedExPark for Big Three-Game AAC Series

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis baseball team is set to host Tulane for a three-game American Athletic Conference series this weekend at FedExPark Avron Fogelman Field, Friday through Sunday. All three games can be streamed live on ESPN+ with Jeff Brightwell and Greg Gaston Sr. on the call.
FedExPark will play host to the 123rd, 124th and 125th all-time meetings between the two programs with Tulane leading the series, 73-49. The Tigers have won three of the last four series vs. the Green Wave, including taking two of three games in New Orleans last season, capped off with a 7-5, 10-inning win in Sunday's finale to clinch the series.
Memphis (20-28, 7-14 AAC) is coming off a three-game American Athletic Conference series sweep of UAB at FedExPark last weekend. The Tigers kept it rolling with an 11-1 win over Mississippi Valley State at home on Tuesday night.
RHP Seth Garner landed on the AAC's Weekly Honor Roll for his performance vs. UAB last Friday night, earning the win and allowing no runs on five hits and just one walk, striking out six. Will Howell and Davis Oswalt combined for three scoreless innings to finish the 2-0 shutout. The Tigers erased a 6-0 deficit with an eight-run, three-home run inning in Saturday's 12-10 win and won a 2-1 pitchers' duel on Sunday to complete the sweep. Closer Brayden Sanders slammed the door on the Blazers twice with back-to-back saves on Saturday and Sunday.
Tulane (28-20, 11-10 AAC) will roll in to Memphis after dropping a series to Florida Atlantic, two games to one, salvaging the series finale with a 6-4 win over the Owls on Sunday.
The Tigers will roll out the weekend rotation of Garner (3-6, 4.11 ERA), LHP David Case (1-6, 5.96 ERA) and a starter to be named later for Sunday's finale. The Green Wave will counter with LHP Luc Fladda (3-5, 7.01 ERA) on Friday night and RHP Trey Cehajic (4-2, 5.24 ERA) on Saturday, followed by a starter to be announced for the series finale.
Tiger catcher Jonah Sutton ranks top 20 nationally in runners thrown out from behind the plate (17) and is now 17-of-36 (47%) from behind the dish. As a team, Memphis has thrown out 39 percent of runners stealing on the season (22-of-56) as Justin Fogel is 4-for-17 on the year and freshman Jack Pitts is 1-for-3.
After ranking 12th nationally with 54 double plays turned a season ago, the Tigers have turned 45 through 48 games to lead The American and rank sixth nationally in that category. Memphis trails national leaders New Mexico State and UCLA (49) by five.
Tulane is led offensively by Connor Rasmussen (.330 AVG. / 5 HR / 37 RBI), Matthias Haas (.318 AVG. / 19 2B / 36 RBI) and Gavin Schulz (.292 AVG. / 5 HR / 35 RBI). The Green Wave lead The American and rank 12th nationally with 111 doubles on the season. On the mound, Tulane closer Michael Lombardi ranks 12th nationally and leads the AAC with nine saves.
