Tigers Trek to Conway for Tuesday Night Matchup with Bears

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis baseball team hits the road for Conway, Arkansas, on Tuesday for a Tuesday night matchup with Central Arkansas at 6 p.m. at Bear Stadium.

Bear Stadium will play host to the 16th all-time meeting between the two programs, with Memphis leading the all-time series 12-3. Last season, the Tigers powered their way to a 14-4, eight-inning win in Memphis as they tied a program record with seven home runs.
Memphis (14-21, 3-9 AAC) is coming off a series victory over Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton over the weekend where the Tigers won a pair of one-run games on Saturday (8-7) and Sunday (5-4). The Owls were fresh off a sweep of preseason-AAC favorite East Carolina the weekend prior.
Outfielder Cade Greer was named to the American Athletic Conference's Weekly Honor Roll for his performance last week. The Lewisburg, Mississippi, native hit safely from the lead-off spot in the Tiger lineup in all three games over the weekend to help Memphis earn the series win. He scored six runs during the series to earn a share of the conference lead in that category for the week.
Greer hit a solo home run to the opposite field that proved to be the eventual winning run in Sunday's series-clinching win. For the week, he hit .364, slugged .727 and got on base at a .563 clip due being plunked three times and walking twice to go along with his four hits.
Central Arkansas (14-20, 8-7 ASUN) is coming off a weekend series win at Bellarmine over the weekend. The Bears put up 10 runs in each of their wins on Friday and Sunday but were held scoreless in a 1-0 defeat on Saturday.
The Bears are led offensively by Bryce Cermenelli (.393 AVG. / 55 H / 22 RBI), Blaine French (.307 AVG. / 2 HR / 19 RBI) and Zeb Allen (.300 AVG. / 8 HR / 12 2B / 28 RBI). As a team, the Bears rank 89th nationally in on-base percentage, getting on at a .401 clip.
Tiger catcher Jonah Sutton is among the national leaders (T-No. 4) in runners thrown out from behind the plate (15) and is now 15-of-32 (47%) from behind the dish. As a team, Memphis has thrown out 51 percent of runners stealing on the season (19-of-37) as Justin Fogel is 4-for-5 on the year.
After ranking 12th nationally with 54 double plays turned a season ago, the Tigers have turned 32 through the season's first 35 games and rank 17th nationally in that category.
The Memphis pitching staff has been another highlight through the first half of the season, combining for a 4.82 ERA (302.2 IP) to rank fourth in The American and 62nd nationally. The Tiger bullpen has accounted for 156.2 of those innings and has given up 78 earned runs for a bullpen ERA of 4.48.
