
Memphis Earns First Conference Victory in Dominating Fashion

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Tigers fell behind early when Celeste Wood singled to bring home the first run of the game for Tulsa.
- It was Wood's fifth RBI of the weekend.
- The Golden Hurricane stretched its lead with two runs in the second inning.
- Tallulah Pascucci recorded an RBI double to right field.
- Pascucci later came around to score on an RBI groundout by Faith Russell.
- With a three-run deficit in the third inning, Memphis erupted for five runs to take the lead.
- A single by Arianna Cox-Cole produced a run when the outfielder misplaced the hit, allowing Kayla Clement to score from second.
- The Tigers executed a double steal with Cox-Cole reaching second while Kennedy Semien scored on Tulsa's attempt to throw Cox-Cole out at second base.
- In that same at-bat, Zoe Adebayo doubled to center, allowing Cox-Cole to score.
- Adebayo scored during the following sequence when McKaylee Polk lined a single up the middle to give Memphis the lead.
- The Tigers' fifth run of the inning came on a sacrifice fly by Aubrey Williams.
- Memphis came up in the fourth inning and stretched its lead to double digits.
- A single by Kennedy Semien scored Mia Brown to make the score 6-3 in favor of the Tigers.
- Zoe Adebayo recorded her second and third RBIs of the game on a single to center field.
- After entering as a pinch runner, Presley Morris scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of McKaylee Polk.
- Ariel Davis perfectly placed her second sacrifice bunt of the game on a safety squeeze play where Drue Thomas scored.
- A single by Aubrey Williams brought home another run when a botched rundown allowed Neely Taylor to score.
- Memphis extended its lead to 10 runs when Mia Brown recorded an RBI single to short left field that plated another run due to a fielding error.
- Lyrical Bennett threw her second complete game of the week, only allowing one earned run over five innings, moving to 3-2 on the season.
NOTABLES
- Memphis' 14 hits were the most in a conference game since the 2017 season when the Tigers had 17 hits against Central Florida.
- It was Memphis' first mercy-rule victory in conference play since the 2021 season where the Tigers defeated Houston, 12-3, in five innings.
- Five Tigers (Neely Taylor, Kennedy Semien, Taniyah Brown, Zoe Adebayo, Shelby Durbin) all currently sit with batting averages above .300.
- Memphis has now surpassed its stolen base total from the previous season.
- Neely Taylor's streak of games started has now reached 23.
- She has also moved into the team lead in batting average (.391) and hits (27).
- Memphis hitters had zero strikeouts for just the fourth time this season.
