Tigers Drop Series Finale Against Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. – Memphis (12-13, 1-2 AAC) softball fell short against Tulsa (12-11, 2-1 AAC) in the final game of the Tigers' opening conference series on Sunday by a score of 8-0 in five innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Tulsa gained the lead in the first inning on a two-RBI single by Amber Turner.
- Two walks and a single allowed Memphis to load the bases in the second inning, but no runs would score after a popout by Drue Thomas, who entered as a pinch hitter.
- In the following inning, Memphis had a runner at third in Kennedy Semien, but a groundout ended the scoring opportunity.
- The Golden Hurricane extended its lead in the third with a sacrifice fly off the bat of Amber Turner, which was followed by an RBI groundout by Brookley Foster to make the score 4-0.
- Tulsa put the game into a mercy-rule situation with a four-run fourth inning.
- Faith Russell scored on a wild pitch.
- Celeste Wood scored on a double by Annika Dill.
- Amber Turner recorded her fourth and fifth RBIs of the game with a single through the left side of the infield.
- Needing one run to extend the game, Kennedy Semien doubled to left field with one out.
- The next two batters struck out looking to end the game.
NOTABLES
- Memphis had both a mercy-rule victory and loss in the same series for the first time since 2018 against UConn, when the Tigers defeated the Huskies, 8-0, in six innings before losing 10-0 in five innings on a same-day doubleheader.
- Four Tigers (Kennedy Semien, Neely Taylor, Taniyah Brown, Zoe Adebayo) finished the weekend with an OPS above 1.000.
- Kennedy Semien recorded her eighth multi-hit game of the season, going 2-for-3 with a double.
- Zoe Adebayo finished her weekend with five hits, including a double, and three RBIs.
- The Tigers have now surpassed the 200-hit mark as a team and currently have a team batting average of .315.
- Neely Taylor has now reached 25 games started, which leads the team.
- The Tigers used four different pitchers in the circle for the first time this season.
