Tigers Set for Midweek Matchup at No. 15 Ole Miss

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis baseball team will head south to Oxford, Mississippi, on Tuesday night for the first of two season matchups with No. 15 Ole Miss at Swayze Field.
The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ with first pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Jeff Brightwell will have the audio call on GoTigersGo.com.
Swayze Field will play host to the 107th meeting between the two programs since 1978. The Rebels lead the series, 61-45. Memphis and Ole Miss split the season series one game apiece last season with the Tigers winning the most recent matchup 9-4 at FedExPark on April 2, 2024 to mark the first win over the Rebels in Memphis since 2017, and the first win over Ole Miss on campus since 2001.
Memphis (11-12, 0-3 AAC) is coming off its conference-opening weekend where the Tigers dropped three games in Greenville, N.C., to preseason American Athletic Conference favorite East Carolina.
The Tigers will roll out RHP Caden Robinson (1-2, 6.88 ERA) on Tuesday night for his sixth start of the season. The 15th-ranked Rebels (18-5, 4-2 SEC) will counter with lefty Gunnar Dennis (1-1, 7.50 ERA), who will be making his first start and seventh appearance overall on the mound.
The Rebels are led offensively by Mitchell Sanford (.337 AVG. / 5 HR / 26 RBI), Ryan Moerman (.330 AVG. / 9 HR / 29 RBI) and Isaac Humphrey (.329 AVG. / 7 HR / 27 RBI). Ole Miss is tied with Kansas for sixth in the NCAA in total home runs, hitting 49 long balls so far this season. They are fifth in the nation in home runs per game, averaging 2.13 home runs per game.
After ranking 12th nationally with 54 double plays turned a season ago, the Tigers have turned 21 through the season's first 23 games and rank 20th nationally in that category.
The Memphis pitching staff has been another highlight to the start of the season, combining for a 4.30 ERA (198.2 IP) to rank third in The American and top 50 nationally. The Tiger bullpen has accounted for 103.2 of those innings and has given up just 41 earned runs for a bullpen ERA of 3.56.
Tiger catcher Jonah Sutton is among the national leaders in runners thrown out from behind the plate (13). Sutton is currently one shy of the national lead and is now 13-of-28 (46%) from behind the dish.
The Rebels will pay a return visit to the Tigers at FedExPark Avron Fogelman Field on April 8 at 6 p.m.
