Tigers Set for Big Weekend Series at Louisiana Tech

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis baseball team is set for three-game series in Ruston, Louisiana, with Louisiana Tech, Friday through Sunday at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.
The Tigers and Bulldogs are set for a 4 p.m. first pitch on Friday before a 2 p.m. start Saturday and a 1 p.m. start for the Sunday finale. All three games will be streamed live on ESPN+ while Jeff Brightwell will have the call via audio stream on GoTigersGo.com.
The series with the Bulldogs will mark the 12th, 13th and 14th all-time meetings between the two teams, with the Bulldogs leading the all-time series, 6-5. The programs have not met since 1989, with Memphis taking a pair of games from the Bulldogs that season. The last meeting in Ruston came in 1988 when LA Tech took the series, two games to one.
Memphis (5-3) is coming off a mid-week split after defeating Alabama A&M 17-3 at FedExPark in Memphis on Tuesday night and falling in extra innings at Little Rock, 9-8, on Wednesday night before heading to Ruston.
LA Tech (5-3) enters the weekend after falling at home to Lamar, 6-5, on Tuesday night. Last weekend, the Bulldogs dropped a series at No. 22 Southern Miss, two games to one.
The Bulldogs are led offensively by Michael Ballard (.387 AVG., 2 HR, 8 RBI) and Garrison Berkley (.379 AVG.).
The Tigers will roll out a weekend rotation of RHP Seth Garner (0-0, 3.72 ERA), LHP David Case (1-0, 7.00 ERA) and RHP Caden Robinson (0-1, 7.25 ERA). The Bulldogs will counter with RHP Grant Hubka and LHP Luke Cooley with a starter to be announced later for Sunday's finale.
Redshirt-junior INF Shane Cox has led the Tigers offensively through the first eight games of the season. The Munford, Tenn., native is slashing .381 / .433 / .808 for a strong 1.241 OPS, thanks to seven extra-base hits (2 HR, 4 2B, 1 3B). His eight RBI are second most on the team behind only James Smith IV (9).
After ranking 12th nationally with 54 double plays turned a season ago, the Tigers have turned nine through the season's first eight games and rank 11th nationally in that category (No. 2 AAC).
The Memphis pitching staff has been another highlight to the start of the season, combining for a 3.58 ERA to rank second in The American and rank top 61 nationally.
Three-base hits have also been common through the first eight games of the year as the Tigers have already recorded three (No. 32 in NCAA, No. 3 AAC) after totaling just six a season ago.
