
Tigers Drop Midweek Matchup at Mississippi State

STARKVILLE, Miss. – The University of Memphis softball team fell to Mississippi State 16-1 on Tuesday evening at Nusz Field in Starkville, Mississippi.
The Bulldogs (30-12, 9-9 SEC) jumped out to a first-inning lead as the Tigers (4-34, 1-17 AAC) struggled to find a rhythm early on. McKaylee Polk scored the lone run for Memphis in the top of the fourth inning – her seventh run scored on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Mississippi State used nine hits in the first inning, including a pair of home runs, to jump out to a 12-0 lead.
• Marley Maness reached first on a throwing error by the bulldog third baseman, putting the Tigers' first runner on base in the top of the second. Polk singled through the left side in the next at-bat, however she was left stranded on base.
• The Bulldogs continued to widen the gap as Nadia Barbary's RBI groundout scored Salen Hawkins in the bottom of the second frame.
• Kennedy Semien looked to start building some momentum in the top of the third with a one-out single back up the middle, but the Tigers were unable to capitalize.
• Mississippi State plated another run in the bottom of the third inning on a Kylie Edwards RBI single.
• In the top of the fourth, Polk slugged her fifth double of the season off the left-field wall before advancing to third on an error by the catcher and then Francesca Lumpp drew a walk putting runners on the corners for the Tigers before she stole second base. A wild pitch by the Bulldogs allowed Polk to come into score.
• The Bulldogs added two more runs when Rylie St. Clair hit a two-run single through the right side that allowed Megan Davidson and Kylie Hull to score in the bottom of the fourth.

• Four Tigers recorded hits in the game: Polk (2), Zoe Adebayo and Semien.
• Polk went 2-for-2 with a run and a double, marking her fifth two-bagger of the season.
• Rylee Dugar got the start and went just 0.1 inning of work with a strikeout before Taniyah Brown entered in relief for the Tigers. Brown pitched 2.2 innings in the game and Abigail Morgan finished the contest for Memphis with an inning of relief in the circle.
