Tigers Travel to Birmingham for Series Against Blazers

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis softball team will head out on the road this week as it takes on UAB in an American Athletic Conference matchup this weekend in Birmingham, Alabama. The series will begin Friday night, April 12, at 5 p.m. with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday and noon in Sunday's finale.
The Tigers (4-30, 1-14 AAC) dropped their AAC series to South Florida over the weekend at home and are looking to get back in the win column.
This will be the 26th, 27th and 28th all-time meetings between Memphis and UAB with the Blazers holding an 18-8 lead in the series. This weekend will mark the first matchups between the two programs since 2013.
"This series is another opportunity for us to compete within the AAC. We need good starts from our pitchers and clean defense to give us a shot," head coach Stephanie VanBrakle Prothro said.
Zoe Adebayo tops the Tigers this season with three home runs trailed by Arianna Cox-Cole, Francesca Lumpp and McKaylee Polk each slugging two a piece on the season.
Adebayo continues to lead Memphis in run production after collecting her 13th RBI against the Bulls. Cox-Cole and Polk shot up to nine each after strong performances against South Florida Sunday afternoon.
Taniyah Brown holds down the circle with 100.0 innings of work in 22 appearances this season. Brown most recently recorded a 2.77 ERA with seven strikeouts in 13.0 innings for the Tigers in the series against South Florida.
UAB (17-22, 8-7 AAC) is coming off a midweek loss to Auburn, 9-0. The Blazers swept their most recent AAC opponent, North Texas, last weekend at home.
The Blazers are hitting a .257 as a team while allowing their opponents to bat .300 against them. UAB is led offensively by Hannah Dorsett with a .371 batting average and 39 hits, 24 runs scored and 19 RBI. She is trailed by Bella Wiggins (.348) and Lindsey Smith (.311). Smith also leads the Blazers in RBI driving in 28 runs this season. UAB has scored 160 runs with 136 RBI on the season.
The Blazers have a team ERA of 4.33 and are led in the circle by Leigha Kirby with a 3.56 ERA. She has five wins and one save in 90.1 innings of work and is followed by Caitlin Russell, who owns a 3.26 ERA in 53.2 innings pitched and Olivia Valbak with a 3.89 ERA in 50.1 innings in the circle.
