Mar 11, 2024 | Baseball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis baseball team is set to host a pair of midweek games this week at FedExPark Avron Fogelman Field as it welcomes North Alabama and Arkansas State to the Bluff City for games on Tuesday and Wednesday at 6 p.m.
The Tigers (7-10) will take on the Lions of North Alabama (6-9) on Tuesday before switching focus to the Red Wolves (11-5) on Wednesday night.
FedExPark Avron Fogelman Field will play host to the ninth meeting all-time between the Tiger and Lions, with Memphis leading the series 6-2. North Alabama won the last meeting between the teams in 2022. Wednesday night will mark the 102nd all-time meeting between the Tigers and Red Wolves, with Memphis winning both games in the series a season ago and holding a 67-34 advantage all-time.
Both games will be available to stream on GoTigersGo.com with Jeff Brightwell on the call.
The Tigers dropped a midweek game last Wednesday night at Ole Miss, 5-3, to the Rebels in the first of two matchups with them this season. Memphis jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning but couldn't hang on as the Rebels rallied for five runs in the third through sixth innings. The Tiger bullpen was a bright spot in the loss as the group of JT Durham, Seth Garner, Logan Rushing, Seth Cox, Kylan Stepter and Brayden Sanders combined to allow just one run on four hits over the final 6.2 innings.
Memphis hosted the Inaugural Grind City Classic over the weekend and dropped games to Butler and Presbyterian before falling in extra innings to Jackson State on Sunday.
Tiger infielder Daunte Stuart is off to a hot start this season, batting .309 with a team-leading 18 runs scored and 21 hits. The Bahamas native has reached base safely in all 17 games to begin the season and has hit safely in 11-straight games. Pierre Seals enters the week with a team-high .328 batting average and 1.100 OPS to go along with five home runs and 11 RBI. Austin Baskin is tied with Seals for second on the squad in hits (20) and has reached base safely in 30-straight games dating back to last season. Jacob Compton has slugged a team-best eight home runs (tied for AAC lead) and driven in the most runs on the team (17).
Memphis will go with right-handed pitcher Cade Davis (0-3, 12.71 ERA) for his fourth-consecutive Tuesday start.
Offensively, North Alabama is led by Kyle Machado (.296 BA, 2 HR, 4 2B, 12 RBI). Arkansas State is paced by Austen Jaslove's .438 batting average and 1.205 OPS to go along with five home runs, four doubles and 13 RBI while three additional Red Wolves are batting above .300.
Tickets are available for purchase at this link. Tuesday's game against North Alabama will feature the weekly $2 Tuesday (tickets and hot dogs) special while Wednesday's game with Arkansas State will be Wacky Wednesday at the ballpark (triple play dogs available at concessions).
