No. 38 Tigers Down Minnesota to Win Fifth-Straight Match

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis women's tennis team continued its success with a 4-1 win over the Minnesota Golden Gophers Friday afternoon at Leftwich Tennis Center.

The Tigers (9-3) picked up their fifth-straight win and remained unbeaten at home (6-0). In the process, they handed the Gophers just their second defeat of the season (7-2).

Memphis took the first point of the match by storm, with Camila Soares and Leonie Moeller winning 6-0 at No. 1 doubles before Alice Amendola and Miriam Grosmann earned the clinch point with a 6-2 victory on court three.

In singles, the Tigers clinched the victory with three dominating sweeps.

Moeller was strong once again on court two, putting away Mia Liepert 6-2, 6-0. At the No. 6 spot, Micah Pierce also won in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 to put Memphis in front 3-0.

Minnesota got on the board with a win in three sets on court four, but it was Alice Amendola battling for the clinch point on court five. She sealed the victory for the Tigers with a 7-6(6), 6-0 sweep.

The Tigers are back home Sunday morning with an 11 a.m. match against the Utah Utes.
