Tigers Dominate Singles in Victory at Indiana
Feb 15, 2024 | Women's Tennis
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The University of Memphis women's tennis team made it a two-match win streak Thursday evening with a 4-2 road victory against Indiana in Bloomington.
The Tigers (6-3) picked up their third win of the year over a Power Five program, while dropping the Hosiers to 4-6 on the year.
"This team continues to show what they are made of in tough situations," Memphis head coach Hayden Perez said. "We lost a tough doubles point and could have easily gone away, but instead everyone went to work and fought hard. I am proud of this group."
Memphis got started early in doubles with a 6-0 blanking from top tandem Emily Meyer and Leonie Moeller. The Hoosiers, however, wound up with the point behind a 7-5 win on court three and a 7-6 clinch on court two.
In singles, the visiting Tigers were dominant once again winning four of the first five battles to get the match victory.
Redshirt junior Alice Amendola rolled through Lene Mari Hovda at the No. 5 position to win 6-1, 6-3. Senior Camila Soares then swept 6-3, 7-6 on the top line to give Memphis a 2-1 advantage.
After fifth-year senior Monique Woog brought the Tigers to within match point at the third line with a 6-4, 7-5 win, the Hoosiers grabbed their only singles victory from court four.
Sophomore Micah Pierce battled from behind after dropping the first set to bring home the 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 6 to clinch the match for the Tigers.
