MEMPHIS, Ten. – The University of Memphis baseball team is back at FedExPark Avron Fogelman Field for a three-game American Athletic Conference series this weekend against South Florida.
Memphis (23-22, 5-10) is coming off a 1-2 weekend in Wichita against the No. 25 Shockers in an American Athletic Conference series. The Tigers won the series finale on Sunday, 6-3, and David Warren was the winning pitcher, improving to 3-4 on the season. Brayland Skinner was named to the AAC Weekly Honor Roll for his stellar play last week in the field and at the plate. He landed himself at No. 3 on Sunday night's Sportscenter Top-10 plays for a pair of diving catches and went 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and scored a pair of runs.
The Tigers followed up the win over the No. 25 Shockers with a 13-4 mid-week win at Arkansas State on Tuesday night. Skinner was on base all five times he came to the plate and ended the game 4-for-4 with his AAC-leading sixth triple of the year to go with a pair of doubles, four runs scored, two RBI and a stolen base.
"Brayland [Skinner] had a great day at the plate, ending a home run short of the cycle and just missing one," head coach Kerrick Jackson remarked after Tuesday's win. "As long as we keep trending in the right direction, we'll be in a good position. We have to get ourselves ready for a big conference weekend at home and hopefully we can carry this over."
The Bulls (18-28, 6-9) enter the matchup after winning a mid-week game 13-6 at Stetson. Offensively, USF is led by Bobby Boser (.333 BA, 13 HR, 32 RBI) and Eric Snow (.331 BA, 7 HR, 37 RBI).
South Florida leads the all-time series with Memphis, 34-25. The Tigers won two-of-three a season ago in Tampa.
Logan Kohler has been on fire lately, tallying 13 hits in his past seven games to raise his batting average to a team-high .320. In Memphis' 9-3 win over Houston on April 22, he became the first Tiger to record five hits in a game since Darien Tubbs against Cincinnati on May 18, 2016 – going 5-for-5 with a home run.
Outfielder Cameron Benson has reached base safely in 14-straight games. Additionally, lefty closer Dalton Kendrick' 11 saves leads the American and are second-most in the country. Skinner's six triples rank fourth in the country and lead the conference. Dalton Fowler's 88 strikeouts rank No. 7 in the NCAA and leads the American.
