Memphis Falls in Friday Match up Wichita State

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis softball team dropped their Friday match up to Wichita State 10-2. The Tigers (6-31) struggled in the circle early on before holding the Shockers to one run in the final three innings.
"We improved from last night, learning from the little mistakes and focusing on not making those today," head coach Stephanie VanBrakle Prothro said. "Softball is simple, pitching and defense win games so we need to continue to do better there."
Wichita State 10, Memphis 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Wichita State got on the board first as Hood singled to left field sending in McKinney in the top of the first inning. The Shockers added two more runs off Sedlacek's single to center field. Wichita State would put up three more runs before coming out of the top of the first inning.
• Memphis put up two runs as Madison Berner hit her second homerun of the season, and the Tigers' first runs of the series, in the bottom of the first inning.
• The Shockers added two homeruns of their own as Hood hit the ball over center field bringing in Lucas followed by Compton smashing the ball out of left center in the top of the second inning.
• Wichita State put up one more run in the top of the fourth as McKinney singled to left field sending Compton in.
NOTABLES
• Rylee Dugar got the start going 5.0 innings recording three strikeouts.
• Berner recorded her second homerun of the season, tying her for second most on the team.
• Three Tigers recorded hits against Wichita State: Sam Ibison and Berner.
