Tigers Drop Final Game Against No. 25 Wichita State

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis softball team dropped their series finale against No. 25 Wichita State in a 10-3 loss. The Tigers (6-32) took the Shockers to all seven innings for the first time since 2021 while recording three runs and eight hits in the process.
"I'm proud of the girls pushing through to the end," head coach Stephanie VanBrakle Prothro said. "We've still got some things to work on and we will continue to work through the process. We shot ourselves in the foot a few times today, but we also came up with some big hits. Like I keep saying, we're just going to keep with the process and work on moving up."
Wichita State 10, Memphis 3
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Wichita State went up first as Barnard hit a double to center field in the top of the first inning, sending McKinney in to score.
• Memphis took the lead in the bottom of the first inning for the first time this series as Aliana Zavala hit a two-run double to center field sending in Sam Ibison and Madison Berner.
• The Shockers added three more runs as Nelson scored on a wild pitch and Barnard hit her second homerun of the series bring in McKinney in the top of the second inning.
• Zoe Adebayo recorded her first homerun if the season smashing the ball over the right field wall in the bottom of the second inning, bringing the Tigers back within one run.
• Wichita State hit its second homerun of the game as McKinney sent the ball over center field bringing in Brown for the two runs in the top of the third inning.
• The Shockers added another run to their stat line as Urban hit a double to center field sending Espinosa home in the top of the fourth inning.
• Wichita State put up a run in the top of the fifth inning as Barnard hit a single to center field sending Nelson in for the score.
• The Shockers put two more runs on the board as Hood singled up the middle sending in Barnard and Hoekstra in the top of the seventh inning.
NOTABLES
• Rylee Dugar got the start going 7.0 innings recording one strikeout.
• Three Tigers scored runs against Wichita State: Adebayo, Berner and Ibison.
• Adebayo went 2-for-3 with one homerun and one RBI. Berner went 3-for-4 with one run and Zavala went 1-for-3 with a two RBI double.
