TAMPA, FL – The Memphis softball team dropped game one against South Florida, 5-0, on Friday afternoon. The Tigers (8-37) were unable to capitalize with runners on base through the game.

"I thought we showed some good stuff, we're getting some better quality starts out of our pitchers and coming up with some key hits when we need to, we keep talking about that." Said head coach Stephanie VanBrakle Prothro. "Softball is simple, pitching and defense win games. We need to continue to do better there and find ways to help ourselves."

HOW IT HAPPENED

•       South Florida got on the board first as Sheehan hit a one-run single to left field allowing leadoff hitter Kadlub to slide home in the bottom of the first inning. Sheehan recorded a run of her own as Trivelpeice hit a deep single to the left field wall.
•       Kendall Lee got on base with a single to right field, recording the Tigers' first hit of the game in the top of the second inning.
•       The Bulls continued their run into the bottom of the second inning as Ponn hit a three-run homerun over center field.
•       Sam Ibison hit a standup double through center field to give the Tigers a baserunner in the top of the fourth inning.
•       Memphis recorded a double play to end the fifth inning as Presley Morris stepped on the bag at third before throwing the ball to first to throw out the batter.

NOTABLES

•       Rylee Dugar got the start going 1.0 inning before Drue Thomas came in as relief in the bottom of the second inning. Thomas went 3.0 innings and recorded one strikeout. Dugar re-entered the game in the bottom of the fifth inning.
•       Four Tigers recorded hits against the Bulls: Taylor Smrt, Morris, Lee and Ibison.
