Tigers Travel to South Florida for Final Road Series of Conference Play

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Tiger softball team head to South Florida to take on the Bulls in their final road series of conference play. The Tigers (8-36) are looking to bounce back from their close loss to UT-Martin Tuesday night and break the two-game losing streak that is currently held. Memphis currently sits in seventh in the AAC softball standings and is vying for a chance to move up with games against South Florida, that is currently tied for third in the rankings.
"We are looking forward to this weekend and seeing the progress we've made over the past week." Said head coach Stephanie VanBrakle Prothro. "We've been setting goals with our pitchers and our hitters and we are looking forward to seeing those executed this weekend."
South Florida (27-22) currently sits tied for third in the AAC standings and is harboring a four-game losing streak. The Bulls were most recently swept by Central Florida in their series, April 21-23, and are looking to bounce back and solidify their third-place ranking in the conference standings. The Bulls are led offensively by Marissa Trivelpiece (.289 BA, .588 SLG, 25 RBI) and Vivian Ponn (.263 BA, .539 SLG, 17 RBI).
Four Tigers are currently hitting .300 or higher: Kendall Lee, Madison Berner, Linsey Hargis and Sam Ibison. Aliana Zavala and Meagan Chism lead the team in RBIs with 19, followed by Lee with 14. Zavala leads Memphis in homeruns with four on the season, with Berner right on her tail tallying three so far. Ibison also leads the Tigers in hits with 37 with Lee right behind recording 33 so far. Pitcher Hallie Siems leads the Tigers with 83 strikeouts so far on the season.
Memphis will begin the conference series against South Florida on Friday, April 28 at 3:30 p.m. followed by a game Saturday, April 29 at 4:30 p.m. The series will conclude with a game Sunday morning, April 30 at 10 a.m.
