Tigers Fall in a Homerun Filled Game Against UT-Martin

LEXINGTON, Tenn. – The Memphis softball team fell to UT-Martin, 11-9, in a homerun filled game Tuesday night. Seven homeruns were scored through seven innings of play, six coming from the Skyhawks. Taylor Smrt recorded the Memphis' lone homerun, tallying her second of the season. The Tigers (8-36) rallied in the bottom of the seventh but were unable to cover fully.

"We need to find ways to compete with every pitch and every at bat. I think we showed better than we have and made some good plays, but we just need to find a way to push a little more," head coach Stephanie VanBrakle Prothro said. "We need to find ways capitalize when we get on base. We have shown moments of good but not given ourselves the chances through mental or physical mistakes, stick with the process and find ways to get better."

HOW IT HAPPENED

•       UT-Martin struck first in the top of the first inning as Dreiling hit a solo homerun over center field for the Skyhawks.
•       Memphis got up on the board soon after as Smrt hit a single to right field allowing Linsey Hargis to run in first for the Tigers in the bottom of the first inning. Sam Ibison ran home for the Tigers as Meagan Chism hit a sacrifice fly to deep center field.
•       Kendall Lee rounded out the scoring for the Tigers in the bottom of the first inning as Kelsie Adams hit a single up the middle.
•       Neely Taylor brought in run number four for the Tigers off a double to center field from Lee in the bottom of the second inning.
•       The Skyhawks added a run to their stat line as Nixon hit a homerun over center field in the top of the third inning.
•       UT-Martin recorded its third run on the team's third homerun of the game as Long hit over center field in the top of the fourth inning. The Skyhawks added another homerun to the inning as Kelly hit a three-run homerun over center field. UT-Martin added one more run before finishing the inning.
•       The Tigers added another run as Hargis ran in on a single by E'mya Munford in the bottom of the fourth inning. Memphis added its first homerun of the game as Taylor Smrt smashed the ball over center field, bringing in Munford to tie the game up.
•       The Skyhawks put up another homerun as Nixon hit her second of the night over center field bringing in Husty in the top of the fifth inning.
•       UT-Martin put up two more runs as Nixon hit her third homerun of the game over left field in the top of the sixth inning.
•       Memphis added two more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, looking to rally for the win, however came up short to finish the game.

NOTABLES

•       Hallie Siems got the start in to game, going 3.0 innings before Drue Thomas came in as relief in the top of the fourth inning. Thomas went 1.0 innings and recorded one strikeout. Rylee Dugar came in for Thomas in the top of the fifth inning. Dugar went 3.0 innings and recorded one strikeout.
•       Seven Tigers recorded runs against the Skyhawks: Aliana Zavala, Hargis (3), Ibison, Lee, Munford, Smrt and Taylor.
•       Smrt recorded her second homerun of the season and went 2-for-4 with one run and three RBIs. Lee went 3-for-5 with one run and one RBI, Ibison went 3-for-4 with one run and Hargis went 2-for-4 with three runs.
