Tigers Head to New Orleans to Begin AAC Play Against Tulane

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis baseball team is back on the road for a trip to New Orleans for a three-game weekend series with Tulane at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium to kick off American Athletic Conference play. Games one and two are scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday night, respectively, with the Sunday finale set for a 1 p.m. first pitch.

The Tigers (15-11) won a mid-week game at FedExPark on Tuesday (March 28), defeating Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 9-5, after dropping a series to a tough Oral Roberts team two games to one over the weekend.

"Starting this weekend, it's understanding that now every inning, every game is going to be a grind," head coach Kerrick Jackson said. "Knowing that we're all working towards the same common goal, winning the conference and trying to get ourselves into a regional… Everything gets heightened up just a little bit, because those conference games really matter."

The Green Wave (6-19) will enter the weekend losers of four-straight games after dropping a home game to New Orleans, 16-4, on Wednesday night. Offensively, Tulane is led by Brady Hebert (.303 BA, 1 HR, 3 3B, 7 SB) and Brennan Lambert (.295 BA, 4 HR, 6 2B, 15 RBI). Tulane leads the all-time series with Memphis, 68-44, and won four of six games with the Tigers a season ago. Both of Memphis' wins over the Green Wave last year came in New Orleans.

First baseman Anthony Hansen has hit safely in 21-of-24 games this season and carries a team-high .344 average and leads the team with six home runs (including one in each of the last two games) and a .473 on-base percentage. Austin Baskin is tied with Hansen for the team lead in hits (31) and is batting .316 with a team-best eight doubles on the year, slugging four homeruns and knocking in 17 runs. In addition, Baskin has tallied a team-best 11 multi-hit games in 25 starts this season.

The Tigers will roll out the same weekend rotation as a week ago, starting David Warren (2-1, 6.30 ERA) on Friday, followed by lefty Dalton Fowler (2-3, 5.40 ERA) on Saturday and freshman Seth Garner (1-2, 4.70 ERA) in Sunday's finale.
