Mar 23, 2023 | Baseball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis baseball team is back at home for a three-game weekend series with Oral Roberts at FedExPark Avron Fogelman Field. The series will get started on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. (Note: Friday's game was originally scheduled for 6 p.m. but has been moved up to 2 p.m.), before playing Saturday at 4 p.m. and the series finale on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Tigers (13-9) won a pair of mid-week games at FedExPark this week, defeating UA-Little Rock 5-3 Tuesday night and Arkansas State 7-6 Wednesday night. Memphis has won three-straight games and five of its last six.
"Great come-back win tonight," head coach Kerrick Jackson said after Memphis' 7-6 win over ASU. "We played an all-around good game, and these guys are showing they have the ability to come from behind and make some things happen and we're excited about that."
The Golden Eagles (14-8) will enter the weekend winners of four-straight games. Offensively, ORU is led by Jonah Cox (.457 BA, 1 HR, 4 3B, 7 2B, 22 RBI) and Matt Hogan (.358 BA, 8 HR, 34 RBI). Oral Roberts holds a 2-1 advantage in the all-time series with Memphis, with the only meetings coming in 2015.
First baseman Anthony Hansen has hit safely in 18 of 20 games this season and carries a team-best .338 average to go with a team-leading four home runs and .474 on-base percentage. Austin Baskin leads the Tigers with eight doubles on the year, slugging three homeruns and knocking in 13 runs to go with a .317 batting average. In addition, Baskin has tallied a team-best 10 multi-hit games in 21 starts this season.
The Tigers will roll out the same weekend rotation as last weekend: right-hander David Warren (2-0, 4.74 ERA) Friday, lefty Dalton Fowler (1-3, 5.84 ERA) on Saturday and freshman right-hander Seth Garner (1-2, 4.56 ERA) for Sunday's series finale. The Golden Eagles will counter with righty Jakob Hall (2-3, 4.20 ERA), southpaw Harley Gollert (3-0, 3.12 ERA) and right-hander Brooks Fowler (2-1, 2.49 ERA).
All fans will receive free admission to Tiger home games for the rest of March, and kids ages 12 and under get in free all season long. Half-season ticket packages are available at GoTigersGo.com for all games beginning in April.
