HAMMOND, La. – The University of Memphis baseball team is heading to Hammond, La., for a three-game weekend series with Southeastern Louisiana. Games are scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday night, 3 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday for the series finale at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
The Tigers (9-8) won a mid-week game, 3-2, over UA-Little Rock on Tuesday at Gary Hogan Field to snap a six-game skid.
"Hopefully Tuesday's win pushes us in the right direction, and we start playing cleaner baseball moving forward," head coach Kerrick Jackson said.
The Lions (11-6) will enter the weekend coming off an 8-1 loss to No. 25 Southern Miss on Tuesday after winning a pair of games at No. 11 Auburn last weekend. Offensively, SLU is led by Tyler Finke (.352 BA, 27 runs, 4 2B, 2 HR, 16 RBI, 17 SB) and Shea Thomas (.321 BA, 3 2B, 2 HR, 21 RBI).
The Lions' projected starters for the weekend include right-handed pitchers Brennan Stuprich (1-2, 5.31 ERA), Will Kinzeler (3-0, 2.42 ERA) and Andrew Landry (2-1, 3.68 ERA).
For the Tigers, sophomore right-hander David Warren will get the start on Friday. He owns a 4.58 ERA and 2-0 record through three starts and five total appearances this year. Saturday's Memphis starter is to be determined and Sunday freshman Seth Garner will get the call for his fifth start of the season. Garner is 0-2 on the season and owns a 5.68 ERA.
This will be the first ever meeting between Memphis and SLU.
All fans will receive free admission to Tiger home games in March, and kids ages 12 and under get in free all season long. Half-season ticket packages are available at GoTigersGo.com for all games beginning in April.
