CHATTANOOGA, TN – The Memphis softball team fell in the rainy day one of the Frost Classic. The Tigers (2-10) made a late run in their first game of the day before falling 9-6 to Eastern Illinois, followed by an 8-0 loss to Akron.
 
Eastern Illinois 9, Memphis 6

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Eastern Illinois struck first to make the score 2-0 in the bottom of the first inning.
• The Panthers added a large lead in the top of the third inning, scoring four runs on a grand slam putting them up 6-0.
• The Tigers added two runs as Kendall Lee hit a two-run double to center field, cutting the deficit in the bottom of the third inning.
• Eastern Illinois recorded a two-run homerun in the top of the fifth inning, extending the lead once again.
• The Tigers cut the lead again in the bottom of the sixth, Neely Taylor, Meagan Chism and Lee hit RBI singles, making the score 9-6.

NOTABLES
• The Tigers recorded six runs and six RBIs in the game.
• Hallie Siems recorded seven strikeouts.
• Lee went 2-for-4, four RBIs and one homerun.

Akron 8, Memphis 0

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Akron struck first scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning, Alexis Campbell recording a run and an RBI in the process.
• The Zips added a large lead in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring three runs to put them up 6-0.

NOTABLES
• Taylor Smrt and Rachel Britton each tallied hits in the top of the third inning to record the Tigers only hits of the game.
• The Tigers recorded a double play in the bottom of the fifth, a ground ball was hit to Presley Morris at third, thrown to Chism at home to tag out the runner, and ended with Lee at first to finish up the double play.

UP NEXT
• The Tigers will compete in day two of the Frost Classic, taking on Western Michigan at 12:30 p.m. and UNLV at 5:30 p.m.
