Memphis Wraps Up Home Campaign with Arkansas State, Travels to Cincinnati

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Tigers (21-24, 5-13) will conclude their 2022 home campaign Tuesday vs. Arkansas State (10-32, 5-18) before a trip to face the Cincinnati Bearcats (19-25, 9-9) in the penultimate conference series of the season.

The Tigers lead the all-time series with Arkansas State 65-33, which includes a 9-7 win at the home of the Red Wolves earlier this season. Memphis has won six consecutive games vs. Arkansas State and hasn't lost at home to the Red Wolves since 2017. In the win earlier this season, the Tigers got home runs from DH Jacob Compton and C Tanner Booth, while three Tigers pitchers allowed only two hits over the final 5.2 innings. Arkansas State has dropped four straight, which includes a sweep at the hands of South Alabama this past weekend. The Red Wolves rank last in the Sun Belt in numerous categories including batting average (.241), doubles, (51), fielding percentage (.952), runs (189), stolen bases (13), and WHIP (1.77).

The Tigers haven't won at UC Baseball Stadium since 2017 when they took two of three from the Bearcats. Cincinnati enters the week off of a conference series win at Tulane, with all three games decided by one run. The Bearcats had dropped five of their past six conference games before the series win over the Green Wave. Cincinnati sits second in the AAC in walks (217), third in batting average (.276), and leads the conference in home runs (66). The Bearcats' pitching staff is last in the conference in K/BB (1.59) and WHIP (1.71). Joe Powell is fourth in the AAC with a .355 batting average, while Griffin Merritt's 16 home runs pace the American and rank 26th in the nation. Merritt also leads the conference with a .716 SLG, 23rd in the country.
