Tigers Host Alcorn State Before Heading South for Series with UCF

MEMPHIS, Tenn.- The Tigers, who are looking to get back in the win column, will come home for a midweek doubleheader with Alcorn State before taking to the road once again for an AAC series matchup with #20/20 ranked UCF.
Memphis (13-23, 1-5 AAC) faced a tough weekend at Houston, falling in all three games to the Cougars. Gracie Morton led the team at the plate, which earned her a third AAC Weekly Honor Roll nod, going 6-10 against Houston with a .600 batting average. Along with her, Kendall Lee and Alyssa Dean both recorded three hits while Linsey Hargis smacked in her second homerun of the season.
In the pitcher's circle, Mikayla Hoschak found the greatest success this past weekend going 10.1 innings with four strikeouts in two appearances.
Alcorn State (13-21, 6-6 SWAC) broke a three-game losing skid this weekend when they claimed back-to-back wins over Southern University. The Lady Braves went on to outscore the Jaguars 14-6 in the last two games of the series while holding them to just two hits in the final match-up on Saturday afternoon.
For the season, Kristian Edwards leads the team with a .350 batting average with 35 hits and 23 runs scored. Along with Edwards, Tyesha Cole is batting over .300 for the season with two homeruns and 15 RBI.
The Tigers have had great success over Alcorn State in the past, winning the last 15 matchups between the two teams. Last time the two teams met was back in 2019 when Memphis took the 13-2 and 12-0 wins over the Lady Braves.
UCF (30-10, 3-0 AAC) come into the week atop of the American Athletic Conference standings after sweeping the Bulls of South Florida this past weekend.
Most recently, the Knights are coming off an 11 inning win over #5 Virginia Tech. After tying the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Shannon Doherty hit the game-winning double down the right field line to bring Jada Cody home and take the 5-4 win and gave UCF their third win over a top-25 team this season.
For the season, UCF is led at the plate by Cody with a .344 BA with a team-best 42 hits and 10 homeruns while six other players are all batting over. 300. In the pitcher's circle, Gianna Mancha and Kama Woodall have been the go-to's with a combined 45 appearances between the two. Mancha, who has 119 of the team's 220 strikeouts this season, boasts a 12-3 record with two saves and a 1.91 ERA.
The Knights will take on North Florida on Wednesday before hosting the Tigers this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
