Tigers Face Full Week vs. Murray State, Central Arkansas, & Houston

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Coming off of their first conference series win of the 2022 campaign, the Memphis Tigers (15-16, 3-6) are set for a busy week, with a home game vs. Murray State (18-16, 4-8) Monday, a Tuesday matchup at Central Arkansas (16-18, 10-5), and a weekend set on the road against Houston (23-13, 5-4).

The Tigers hold a 44-26 all-time record vs. Murray State but have dropped three of the past four meetings between the two teams, which includes a series win by the Racers in Memphis last season. The teams have met only six times since 2004, with all but one of those meetings in Memphis. The Racers are 0-4 vs. SEC competition with season, getting swept at Alabama and falling 9-1 at Kentucky. After Murray State started conference play with a win, the Racers dropped eight straight conference games before a three-game sweep of UT Martin this past weekend. The last seven matchups between the two teams have all been in Memphis, as the teams split a four-game series last season and the Tigers took two of three from the Cougars in 2019. Memphis hasn't won in Houston since May 6, 2016. The Cougars scored 26 runs, which included 10 in each of the last two games, in a series win at home against Tulane last weekend. The Cougars dropped a series at Cincinnati and opened conference play with a series win at home vs. Wichita State. The Cougars lead the AAC in team batting average (.285), while RHP Ben Sears leads the country in strikeout-to-walk ratio at 30:1. Sears' 0.24 walks per nine innings also leads the country among qualified pitchers. Houston will host Houston Baptist Tuesday before the series with the Tigers gets underway Friday.
