Two teams looking for their first conference series win of the season will do battle in Tampa in the third week of American Athletic Conference play. The Tigers and Bulls have met 56 times dating back to 1996, with South Florida holding a 33-23 advantage in the series. The teams met for four games in Memphis last season, and while the Tigers picked up a win in the series opener, the Bulls took the next three matchups to win the series. Memphis is looking for its first win in Tampa since 2018.
South Florida opened conference play against UCF and scored just four runs across the three games vs. the Knights, all losses. The sweep included a pair of shutout losses, South Florida's first two shutout defeats of the season. This past weekend, the Bulls dropped the first two games to Tulane before a 13-8 win in the series finale earned them their first conference win of the season. South Florida holds non-conference wins over Louisville and Boston College. OF Jackson Mayo won AAC Player of the Week March 14, while UTL Roberto Pena took home the same honors March 28. RHP Orion Kerkering won AAC Pitcher of the week March 28, while RHP Jack Jasiak was a unanimous preseason All-Conference selection. 3B Carmine Lane and OF Drew Brutcher were also preseason All-Conference selections. The Bulls match up with Florida Gulf Coast Tuesday at 5 p.m. before they host the Tigers.
