Early Houston Offense Stuns Memphis in Series Opener

HOUSTON, Texas – Looking to get back in the win column in their series opener with the Cougars, Memphis made the trip to Texas for a weekend with Houston. But, early offense from the Cougars stunted the Tigers and they fell 8-0.

Following today's game, Memphis moves to 13-21 overall.

MEMPHIS: 0, HOUSTON: 8 (5 INNINGS)
How it happened:

Houston got on the board early, scoring eight combined runs in the first two innings of play.
Sam Ibison and Gracie Morton got the Tigers rolling in the top of the third inning with back-to-back hits. But, with two outs, Memphis was unable to convert and left them stranded.
The Tigers got another baserunner in the top of the fourth inning when Kendall Lee singled through the left side to reach base. She would advance to second base off a groundout from Camryn Wineinger but would get stranded there after the Cougar defense fended off back-to-back groundouts to shortstop.
Memphis would be unable to make a comeback in the top of the fifth and suffered the 8-0 loss.

Notables:

Along with Ibison, Morton and Lee, Alyssa Dean also reached base off a walk.
Hallie Siems got the start today going 1.2 innings with three strikeouts. Kailey Hilderbrand finished off the remaining of the game holding Houston to just three hits.

UP NEXT

Memphis will continue their series with the Cougars tomorrow beginning at 2 p.m. They will wrap up play with Houston on Sunday beginning at 12 p.m. Coverage of both games can be found on ESPN+.
The Tigers will come back home for a doubleheader with Alcorn State on Wednesday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Tiger Softball Complex.
